Plaston Reinforcing Mesh
Plaston CENTENNIAL finishes are 100% acrylic and polymer based wall coatings. All Plaston CENTENNIAL finishes are factory mixed and integrally pigmented. Because they are crack resistant, fade resistant, water and mildew resistant, Plaston CENTENNIAL Finishes can be used as durable, and decorative coatings over various types of substrates for exterior applications, available in different textures, finishes, and in an unlimited array of colors. Also Plaston CENTENNIAL finishes provide a textured coating for substrates like concrete, stucco, and unit masonry and they can be used for any Plaston EIF system..
Definition and Function
An alkali resistant fiber glass mesh, used as a component of Plaston Exterior Insulation & Finish System. When embedded in a wet coating of Plaston Base Coat mixture it forms a monolithic protective layer over Plaston Insulation Board.
Characteristics
The function of the mesh in the base coat layer is to reinforce the Plaston base coatings providing crack and impact resistance as well as controlling the thermal expansion and contraction of the EIFS.
Types and Uses
Corner Mesh: A 7-ounce mesh used for increased impact resistance specifically at corners and system terminations.
Detail Mesh: A 4.5-ounce mesh used for reinforcing special shapes and details.
Standard Mesh: A 4.5-ounce mesh used for applications requiring normal impact resistance.
Intermediate Mesh: A 12-ounce mesh used with Standard or Medium mesh for applications requiring high impact resistance.
HCS Mesh: A 4.7-ounce mesh used as a first mesh layer in the PLASTONITE System (PM).
Coverage
Corner Mesh: 9 1/2 inches wide x 150 feet.
Detail Mesh: 9 1/2 inches wide x 50 feet.
Standard Mesh: 39 inches wide x 150 feet (487.5 sq.ft.).
Intermediate Mesh: 39 inches wide x 150 feet (487.5 sq.ft.)
HCS Mesh: 39 inches wide x 150 lineal feet (487.5 sq.ft.).
Storage
Avoid storing rolls on end or in direct sunlight.
General Application
- Backwrapping:nforcing All expected terminations of the system shall be backwrapped, using a mesh strip of 9.5 wide.
- All rei mesh edges shall be overlapped a min of 3 to 4.
- Corners of openings (windows, doors) shall be strengthened with diagonal patches of mesh.
- It is recommended to apply the inside curl of the mesh toward the face of the wall.
Procedure:
- Using a stainless steel trowel, apply a continuous layer of Plaston Base Coat mixture to the surface of the insulation board at uniform thickness. Note: Minimum base coat thickness to be 2.4mm.
- With the flat side of the trowel, fully and immediately embed the reinforcing mesh into the wet base coat, trowelling from the centre to the edge to avoid wrinkles.
