PLAS-STIC Base Coat

PLAS-STIC is a component of Plaston Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems. It is a 100% pure acrylic, non-cementitious base coat and adhesive that is pre-mixed and ready to use right from the pail. PLAS-STIC Base Coat is a factory pre- mixed 100% acrylic formulated material, without any additions of cement. This non-cementitious, synthetic product is ready mixed, with a smooth and creamy consistency, providing easy application. It is highly flexible and possesses an exceptional crack resistance quality.

Textures and Color

The drying time depends upon weather conditions. The base coat shall be protected from rain or adverse drying conditions for at least 24 hrs. Cool and humid weather significantly extends curing time. The base coat must be completely cured before the application of Plaston Finish Coat.

Surface Preparation

For base coat application, the insulation boards must be well adhered to the substrate. All gaps between the insulation boards should be filled with slivers of insulation. All aesthetic joints and foam detail shapes should be installed before the base coat is applied.

Mixing Instructions

A small amount of potable water shall be added to adjust workability. It must be blended slowly into the mixture, to achieve consistency. No accelerators, retarders, or any admixture should be added to the mixture.

Application Procedure

Apply PLAS-STIC over the face of the insulation board in a uniform thickness adequate to properly embed the reinforcing mesh minimum of 1/16” (1.6 mm). With the flat edge of a stainless steel trowel, fully and immediately embed the reinforcing mesh into the wet base coat and continue to smooth the surface trowelling from the centre to the edges until the reinforcing mesh is totally embedded and the patterns of the mesh are invisible. Allow the PLAS-STIC base coat to cure thoroughly and completely before applying Plaston Finish Coat. A slight mesh pattern could be visible upon curing.

Precautions

• Ambient and surface temperatures must be (4°) or above during application and curing time. Supplemental heat and protection from rain must be provided, as needed for a minimum of 24 hours. • Avoid application in direct sunlight and excessive heat exposures. • To adjust workability only clean potable water shall be used. Over watering should be avoided.

Packaging and Storage

PLAS-STIC is packaged in five gallon (70lb) plastic pails and should be stored in its original shipping container at temperature not less than 40°F (4°C) or greater than 110°F (43°C), away from direct sunlight, off the ground and in a cool and dry area. PLAS-STIC has a shelf life of 12 months when properly stored and sealed.
