Plaston HCS Base Coat

Plaston HCS Base Coat is a 100% acrylic polymer based cementitious material, reinforced with chopped fibres, and specially designed for application over extruded polystyrene insulation board. This factory blended material ensures uniformity of application and enhances the performance of the Wall System. It cures to a tough, durable, and weather resistant coating.

Usage

PLASTON HCS Base Coat can be used:

Properties

Working Time: The working time of PLASTON HCS is approximately one hour after being mixed with cement depending on ambient conditions. Note: The working time may vary depending on ambient conditions

Curing Time:The curing time depends upon weather conditions. The base coat shall be protected from rain or adverse drying conditions for at least 24 hrs. Cool and humid weather significantly extends curing time. The base coat must be completely cured before the application of Plaston Finish Coat.

Surface Preparation

The insulation boards must be well adhered to the substrate, clean, dry and free from all foreign materials and damage of any type. All gaps between the insulation boards should be filled with slivers of insulation. All aesthetic joints as well as foam detail shapes should be installed before the base coat is applied.

Mixing Instructions

  1. Use a clean container, free of foreign substances for mixing and preparation.
  2. Open the PLASTON HCS pail, and then stir the material to a homogeneous mixture
  3. Add Portland cement to a ratio of 2 PLASTON HCS to 1 cement. After adding the cement, thoroughly mix until it becomes creamy
  4. Allow the mixture to set for 5 minutes, then re-temper, adding a small amount of clean water to achieve the desired workability. The PLASTON HCS mixture shall be used immediately. Keep container closed when not in use.
Note: No additives of any other kind are allowed

Application Procedure

Apply PLASTON HCS over the face of the insulation board in a uniform thickness adequate to properly embed the reinforcing mesh minimum of 1/4” . With the flat edge of a stainless steel trowel, fully and immediately embed the reinforcing mesh into the wet base coat and continue to smooth the surface trowelling from the centre to the edges until the reinforcing mesh is totally embedded and the pattern of the mesh are invisible. Allow the HCS base coat to cure thoroughly and completely before applying Plaston Finish Coat. A slight mesh pattern could be visible upon curing.
