Plaston CBC

Polymer-Based Waterproof Base Coat

PLASTON NCBC is a component of Plaston Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems. It is specially formulated using 100% pure acrylic resins. When Plaston NCBC is mixed with 30% Type 10 Portland Cement by weight it provides a base coat that meets CAN/ULC-S114 non-combustibility requirements. It is highly flexible and possesses an exceptional crack resistance quality. NCBC is a component of Plaston Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems..

Usage

PLASTON CBC Base Coat can be used:
  1. As the base coat for Plaston EIFS in which the reinforcing mesh is embedded.
  2. As a skim coat over masonry and cured concrete providing a smooth and level wall surface.

Properties

Working Time:The working time of PLASTON CBC is approximately one hour after being mixed with cement depending on ambient conditions. Note: The working time may vary depending on ambient conditions
Curing Time:The curing time depends upon weather conditions. The base coat shall be protected from rain or adverse drying conditions for at least 24 hrs. Cool and humid weather significantly extends curing time. The base coat must be completely cured before the application of Plaston Finish Coat.

Surface Preparation

The insulation boards must be well adhered to the substrate, clean, dry and free from all foreign materials and damage of any type. All gaps between the insulation boards should be filled with slivers of insulation. All aesthetic joints as well as foam detail shapes should be installed before the base coat is applied.

Mixing Instructions

  1. Use a clean container, free of foreign substances for mixing and preparation.
  2. Open the PLASTON CBC pail, and then stir the material to a homogeneous mixture
  3. Add Portland cement to a ratio of 70% PLASTON CBC to 30% cement. After adding the cement, thoroughly mix until it becomes creamy
  4. Allow the mixture to set for 5 minutes, then re-temper, adding a small amount of clean water to achieve the desired workability. The PLASTON CBC mixture shall be used immediately. Keep container closed when not in use. Note: No additives of any other kind are allowed

Application Procedure

Apply PLASTON CBC over the face of the insulation board in a uniform thickness adequate to properly embed the reinforcing mesh minimum of 1/16” (1.6 mm). With the flat edge of a stainless steel trowel, fully and immediately embed the reinforcing mesh into the wet base coat and continue to smooth the surface trowelling from the centre to the edges until the reinforcing mesh is totally embedded and the pattern of the mesh are invisible. Allow the CBC base coat to cure thoroughly and completely before applying Plaston Finish Coat. A slight mesh pattern could be visible upon curing. If Plaston CBC is used as a waterproof coating, the stainless steel trowel or proper spray equipment could be used to apply the base coat.

Precautions

  1. Ambient and surface temperatures must be (5°C) or above during application and curing time. Supplemental heat and protection from rain must be provided, as needed for a minimum of 24 hours.
  2. Avoid application in direct sunlight and excessive heat exposures.
  3. To adjust workability only clean potable water shall be used. Over watering should be avoided.

Packaging and Storage

PLASTON CBC is packaged in five gallon (70lb) plastic pails and should be stored in its original shipping container at temperature not less than 40°F (5°C) or greater than (43°C), away from direct sunlight, off the ground, and in a cool and dry area. PLASTON CBC has a shelf life of 12 months when properly stored and sealed.
